Express Glass shared their window safety expertise at the last Strata Community Australia NSW Convention in Sydney.

Our knowledge of window safety and experience with window lock installation will benefit Strata Managers and Owners Corporations, helping them comply with new legislation that aims to prevent window fall incidents involving children.

The NSW Department of Fair Trading varied the Strata Schemes Management Act to require owners corporations install window safety devices on existing buildings by 13 March 2018.

Express Glass welcomed the amendment by the NSW Department of Fair Trading.

Members of our team were present at the Express Glass trade exhibition booth to expertly answer questions about the legislation, window safety, and proper installation of a variety of window lock options.

Kids Don’t Fly, a community education program run by the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, provides some sobering facts about children and window falls.

  • 4 out of 5 children admitted to hospital falling from a window were under 5 years
  • 80% had fallen more than two metres
  • 80% had significant /severe injuries
  • 3 out of 5 cases admitted to hospital were boys
  • Almost half of the cases were associate with furniture near windows​
