EXPRESS GLASS: PORTFOLIO: SANDERSONS MERCEDES BENZ

The expertise of Express Glass Major Projects is behind the sleek look of the extensive headquarters for Sandersons Mercedes Benz, in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney. "The building is a showcase of what we're good at," says Adrian Grocott, head of Express' Major Projects division.

The project required some detailed planning and problem solving. In order to make the ideas a reality, Major Projects' Paul Farrugia worked closely with Steve Fadel from Mechanical Building Services (MBS), the project managers for Sandersons. "Sandersons features a sharp, minimalist look and we had to be very careful to achieve that. Paul’s very good at searching for different solutions. With Express, if it’s out of the ordinary it doesn't scare them, they'll tackle anything and they do a good job," says Steve.

The Sandersons' showroom features an array of toughened frameless glass on an expansive range of windows across the front of the art deco building, located deep in the heart of Sydney's exotic automobile sector. "I guess if you have cars of this quality you want to ensure that your windows are going to show them off properly" adds Adrian.

The frameless glass assemblies include stacking bi-fold doors (to enable the entry and exit of the large limousines), toughened frameless doors with concealed enclosures, auto bi-sliding doors, frameless fixed glazing, office partitions and frameless glass balustrading on the stairs.

"It is an old building and nothing was square or true and so it needed a bit of application to make this job work," adds project manager, John Male-Perkins, of MBS. "Express had what we wanted from a contractor, they were very attentive and very responsive, and that's the key... they were there when you wanted them there. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again."
